I'm sure someone here is an expert. I'm trying to get back in shape, but it's a slow process. In the past I worked my way up to hundreds of push-ups a day. But now it I do 30 I'm sore for three days. I'll push past, of course. But here is where your expertise could be useful!

How long should you wait between exercising certain muscle groups? Does the pain matter, or is it just chemicals left over from recovery?

Yesterday I also ran a mile, then I played tennis for 45 minutes. How long should I wait to do something like that again?

I know you could do these things every day if you're in shape. But I'm not. I'm just getting started.

I’m a female, so maybe not the best advice for your need, but I *try to* follow a 3 day split workout over the course of a week: chest/tris/shoulders, back/bis w/ deadlifts, then legs/abs w/ squats and 1 day of intense cardio like dance or something restorative like yoga. I skip a couple of days between deadlifts and squats. Foam rolling and hydration help to combat soreness between workouts or new activities.

I found Pinterest and Bodybuilding.com really helpful on free ideas to plan programs — weights and meals — when I was starting out.

Cardio can definitely be done everyday so long as your body's feeling up to it.

As for lifting recovery times I've always heard different things. I started a new program a few weeks back that hits every muscle group twice weekly, with a 72-hour break in between each group. (They found 72 hours to be sufficient so long as you're getting adequate sleep. Feels good so far.)

I've always heard abs are the one muscle group that can be hit every day if desired.

If bodyweight exercises like push-ups, I personally wouldn't wait more than a day in between, but I don't know what an expert would advise there. (There's a great channel on YouTube called Athlean X with some amazing bodyweight-only workouts that's worth checking out. One of his vids demonstrates 33 different variations for push-ups alone.)

Good on ya man for getting back into the groove!

I did 45 push-ups today. I couldn't help myself. It's addicting. I'm gonna wreck my chest plate again.

been following keto for 10 years (most of the time) and it sucks for lifting. CKD is the only way to strength train with it IMO. keto does have the advantage of being muscle saving.

For my body type, I can still afford to eat plenty of carbs as long as I'm working out. In fact, if I want to build any muscle, I have to. I'll diet after I've put on some muscle. But at the same time I'm trying to get my body used to being athletic again. My muscles have become so inactive in the last decade that it was becoming hard for me to walk up stairs. I could do one, maybe two pullups. Pathetic for a guy who could whip out 50 in highschool. I set the record for situps under a minute. Back then I ran a 7 minute mile without running very often. Now I run four blocks and literally cough up blood. I don't now how time has gone by so fast. It really sucks the life out of ya.

Are you running four blocks, getting hit by a car and then coughing up blood?

Maybe. I black out after a while and come to coughing blood. And my anus is really sore.

Now that it's not 10,000° outside anymore I should really get out and start walking again

I take the dog for several walks a day but I never want to go too far with him because I know as soon as I do he'll take a massive dump and I will have to carry that shit everywhere ... literally

Why do you own a dog if you won't pick up the shit? They need to walk and you need to assume the responsibility of healthy doge ownership.

I do pick up the poo. That's why I don't want to walk too far from home. Because then I'd have to carry it farther back.

Why do nasty things like dog shit get a cute name like poo, while cute things like women's vaginas get nasty nick names like cunt?

Shouldn't we flip those nick names around?

Try it in a sentence. You'll like it.
